Job description

Are you passionate about using data to drive real business impact — and equally excited about shaping how Data Science is lived and breathed in a company? We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist (m/f/d) who not only thrives in applying cutting-edge methods and technology hands-on but also helps build a Data Science mindset across the organization.

We are a leading e-commerce company with around 700 employees, at an exciting stage: growing, ambitious, and ready to evolve. We are on our journey towards greater data maturity and recognize the need to change. Data Science is seen as a critical enabler — but we need curious, capable people like you to help make it happen.

This role combines technical excellence with cultural leadership, offering you the opportunity to apply your expertise while shaping how Data Science is embedded across teams. You’ll help shape both the technical foundations and the organizational conditions needed for impactful Data Science. You’ll join at an exciting moment, with the opportunity to shape and co-create our growing Data Science capability.

Your Challenge — Are You Up for It?

Be part of building a technically strong, business-relevant Data Science team and influencing hiring, onboarding, and growth. Help establish best practices, technical standards, and a shared understanding of Data Science across the company. Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to make data-driven decisions the norm. Obtain buy-in from senior stakeholders and managers to pivot the organization towards fast, data-driven decision-making.

About your new role

  • Advocate for data-driven thinking and, together with your peers, contribute to building a sustainable Data Science practice.

  • Partner closely with Data Science, Software Engineering, Product, and Business teams to turn prototypes into scalable, reliable solutions.

  • Enable and mentor others to build, deploy, and monitor production-ready models using state-of-the-art technologies, including container technologies such as Docker.

  • Collaborate with the owners of the existing experimentation program to refine and scale causal analysis and experimentation frameworks that generate actionable insights.

  • Foster knowledge-sharing, mentor colleagues, and act as a trusted advisor for stakeholders across the organization.

Job requirements

Skills & Requirements

Technical Strengths:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in applied Data Science, ideally in fast-paced environments.

  • Hands-on technical skills: Python, SQL, modern ML libraries (scikit-learn, XGBoost, etc.), cloud platforms (preferably AWS), and container technologies such as Docker.

  • Ability to write production-ready, maintainable code.

  • Strong command of machine learning, statistics, causal inference, and experiment design.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Ability to translate complex problems into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A basic understanding of the different kinds of teams you might encounter, including cross-functional teams from Product, Engineering, and Business.

  • A pragmatic, self-starting attitude: you enjoy both solving problems and influencing how problems are solved.

  • Experience building up a Data Science culture, driving initiatives, or contributing to team development is a big plus.

  • The ability to obtain buy-in from various management roles to drive a data-mature, fast-paced decision-making culture.

You don't tick all the boxes? Don't worry, we are looking for employees who convince us with their personality and are motivated to go on full power with their team!

Why Join us?

  • The rare opportunity to combine impactful, hands-on work with shaping how Data Science evolves in the company. This is a role with both technical and organisational influence — your work will not only deliver solutions but help shape how the company uses data at scale.

  • A collaborative, open environment where your voice matters.

  • Modern tech stack, autonomy to explore new tools and approaches.

  • Support for your professional development and growth.

  • A team at the beginning of its Data Science journey — your contribution will be visible and valued.

  • You’ll be part of an organization eager to evolve, where your expertise will help shape how data is used to drive decisions.

  • This role reports either to a senior executive at management level or directly to the managing directors, and works closely with peers across Product, Engineering, and Business teams.

  • This is not a role for everyone. It's for those who enjoy ambiguity as much as algorithms, and who see shaping culture as part of delivering value. If that sounds like you — we'd love to hear from you.

At idealo you can expect
