(Senior) Backend Engineer idealo Intelligence (m|w|d)

As a (Senior) Backend Engineer in the idealo Intelligence team, you will help build the technical foundation that enables us to understand our users better and provide our merchants with data-driven marketing solutions. As part of a newly formed team, you will have the opportunity to build a modern data platform from the ground up and actively shape its architecture, systems, and processes from day one.

The position is available in full or part-time.

About your new role

• Design, develop, and operate backend services and data workflows for processing, anonymising, and enriching large-scale datasets.

• Take ownership of the full lifecycle of your services - from architecture and implementation through to production operations.

• Build Java and Spring Boot microservices while working with event-driven architectures and cloud-native technologies on AWS.

• Ensure high software quality through automated testing, code reviews, and observability best practices.

• Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to improve productivity and code quality.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams and actively share your knowledge through pair programming, code reviews, and documentation.

Skills & Requirements

Must-have

• Several years of experience in backend or platform software development with Java.

• Experience with Spring Boot or comparable frameworks.

• Experience building and operating cloud-native applications using containerised environments (e.g. AWS, Kubernetes, or Docker).

• Experience working with event-driven architectures, for example, Kafka.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis.

• You challenge assumptions respectfully and use data and sound reasoning to discuss ideas. Once a decision has been made, you commit to it and help maintain alignment and momentum across the team.

• Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data pipelines, PySpark, or Apache Airflow.

• Experience operating production systems.

• German language skills.
