Job description
We are the Observability team at idealo, which cares about building reliable and scalable systems just as much as we care about living rich, balanced lives. Whether it’s biking, making music, traveling, raising kids, learning new things (constantly), or simply brewing a great cup of coffee.
Together with the sister teams Compute and Cloud Core, Team Observability is part of idealo’s Platform Unit, building the internal platforms that empower over +20 developer teams. Our mission is to design and maintain self-service infrastructure products that reduce cognitive load for developers and improve engineering productivity across the company.
About your new role
Work as Cloud Engineer at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and developer experience, helping teams build, deploy, and run services on AWS.
Design and maintain self-service platform tools that improve reliability and empower internal product teams.
Collaborate in mob and pair programming setups within a cross-functional Platform Engineering team focused on observability and infrastructure tooling.
Operate and extend a modern tech stack: Linux, AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform/CDK, CI/CD, and tools like Grafana, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics and Uptrends.
Be part of the on-call rotation, ensuring high availability and smooth platform operations.
Skills & Requirements
Familiar with the working methods of platform engineering principles, such as delivering internal services, infrastructure automation, and testing—especially in Kubernetes-based environments.
Proficient in working with cloud providers (AWS or others) and navigating the challenges of observability and system reliability in a world of distributed systems.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to think critically, give situational feedback, and engage in constructive discussions.
As we work for and with developer teams: Background in software engineering (+3 years), with hands-on experience building frontend or backend applications for end users—beyond configuration or infrastructure-only work.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Nice to have
Experience with observability or data pipelines.
Know-how in designing for high availability and production-grade software practices.
Enthusiasm for representing the team internally and externally, e.g. in All Hands or tech talks.
A mindset that embraces experimentation and calculated risk-taking.
Interest or hands-on experience with new AI tools, APIs, or agent-based systems.
You don't tick all the boxes? Don't worry, we are looking for employees who convince us with their personality and are motivated to go on full power with their team!
