Compute Cloud Engineer - Cloud Platform (f|m|d)

We’re Team Compute within idealo’s Cloud Platform together with our sister teams Observability and Cloud Core—a bunch of cloud enthusiasts who love infrastructure as much as we love cooking together (horizontal scaling = more pizza for everyone). We’re building and operating the core compute backbone for idealo’s cloud workloads i.e. helping product teams to deploy, scale and secure their applications seamlessly.  

Cloud Platform provides a scalable, secure and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure — enabling 20+ engineering teams to ship fast and focus on what they do best.  

About your new role

As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll work at the intersection of infrastructure and developer experience. Your work will directly empower teams across idealo to build, deploy and run services on Kubernetes (EKS) and other AWS-native platforms. As our platform is business critical, on-call duty is part of the job. 

You will: 

• Operate and further develop our EKS-based Kubernetes-platform, with a focus on security, resilience and scalability. 

• Design and implement infrastructure using Terraform/Terragrunt and cloud-native tooling. 

• Partner with internal teams to consult on architecture, CI/CD and optimization. 

• Drive innovation by introducing new tools and technologies that improve developer experience and platform scalability. 

• Contribute to shaping our team culture and agile processes. 

Skills & Requirements 

• Proven experience of 3+ years in AWS and container technologies (e.g. EKS, ECS and Serverless). 

• Strong Kubernetes capabilities, ideally complemented by a special domain knowledge e.g. in networking, observability or security. 

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform and Terragrunt, to ensure consistent, maintainable, and secure infrastructure. 

• A collaborative mindset and intrinsic motivation to grow and support developers in a fast-paced environment. 

• Familiarity with modern CI/CD-concepts and experience in automating workflows with tools like Github actions, ArgoCD or Flux. 

Bonus points  

• Programming skills (e.g., Go, TypeScript) and a platform engineering mindset are nice to have.

• Participated in cloud migration and the optimization afterwards (FinOps).

• Exposure to AI/ML workloads on Kubernetes.
