(Senior) Backend Engineer (Kotlin/Java, AWS) (w|m|d)

As part of our Clickout-to-Revenue team, you help shape the very heart of idealo – our monetization processes. We collaborate with around 50.000 e-commerce partners across Europe, ranging from niche specialist shops to major marketplaces like Amazon and eBay. Through idealo’s price comparison platform, our partners gain access to millions of users – with over 560 million product listings available on idealo.de alone.  

idealo is actively expanding its strategic partnerships and continuously acquiring new online shops through affiliate platforms. Our focus lies on the technical integration of these platforms, as well as the reliable synchronization and enrichment of the data they provide. 

Our goal is to evaluate the performance of our affiliate campaigns with precision and transparency. Based on these insights, we develop targeted measures to further enhance the visibility and success of our partners’ offers on idealo.

About your new role  

End-to-End Ownership  

• You develop and operate business and web applications running in the AWS Cloud.

• Together with your team, you take full responsibility across the entire value chain (YBYO): architecture, infrastructure, development, testing, security, deployment, monitoring, on-call duty, and maintenance.  

Product focus: Monetization processes and services

• You will develop services for presenting and billing our business models. Key components for this are the Odoo ERP system, internal tools for master data management, and interfaces to Salesforce and SAP.

• Innovative business models require innovative solutions—that's why you'll be working closely with stakeholders such as our accounting department, sales team, account management, and other cross-functional engineering teams. 

Agile Collaboration 

• You work in an agile engineering team with short release cycles and close collaboration with the product lead, accounting, and other stakeholders.  Pair programming, pull requests, code reviews, and regular feedback are second nature to you.  

Technical Excellence 

• You actively contribute ideas for improving processes, care deeply about code quality, and continuously develop your skills – we support you with a range of professional development opportunities  

Skills & Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in web application development, including at least 3 years with Kotlin/Java .

• Strong knowledge of AWS architecture and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

• Experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes.

• Experience building Lambda functions for data processing (Python, TypeScript) .

• Solid understanding of relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and document-oriented databases (MongoDB, DocumentDB).  

• You take an end-to-end responsibility and can explain technical concepts clearly, even to non-technical stakeholders.

• You enjoy working in a team, sharing knowledge, giving constructive feedback, and collaborating through pair programming and code reviews.
