Software Engineer - Marketing Data Platform (Java/Kotlin, Kafka, AWS) (m|f|x)

To achieve this, we rely on a modern, event-driven architecture using Kafka, REST APIs, NoSQL databases, and microservices written in Kotlin. Our system landscape runs entirely on AWS. We own the full lifecycle of our services — from design and development to deployment and monitoring. 

The position is available in full - or part-time.

About your new role 

• You take an active role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable microservices using Kotlin/Java and related technologies. 

• As part of our DevOps culture, you take end-to-end ownership — from concept to deployment and monitoring. 

• You shape our infrastructure and development processes by contributing to CI/CD pipelines, observability, and Infrastructure as Code. 

• You collaborate closely with stakeholders from marketing and across idealo to deliver reliable, performant tracking and billing systems. 

• You write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and you’re comfortable with pair programming and code reviews. 

• While your focus is on the backend, you’re open to contributing to frontend tasks when needed — frontend experience is a plus. 

Skills & Requirements  

Technical Skills 

• Solid experience with Java and Kotlin, particularly with Spring Boot and building Restful APIs.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka) and distributed systems is a plus. 

• Experience working in Kubernetes environments, ideally in cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS). 

• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. AWS CDK, Terraform). 

• Comfortable operating and monitoring your own applications — you value ownership and reliability. 

• Bonus: Experience with CI pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions). 

• Nice to have: Frontend development skills using TypeScript/JavaScript.
