Job description

At idealo, data guides every decision. To support this, we offer a compliant, scalable, and cost-efficient data platform within the AWS ecosystem – enabling insights and establishing company-wide standards.

As we shape the long-term vision of our data engineering team, we are looking for support in our B2B subteam, which currently consists of two engineers working on data products that benefit a wide range of internal stakeholders, such as sales & account management, finance, catalog development, CRM, marketing, and upper management.

This is an exciting time to join: you’ll become part of a team that’s growing together while setting the foundation for technical excellence, shared ownership, and impactful delivery – in an environment that values diverse perspectives, mutual support, and continuous learning.

The position as Data Engineer (m|w|d) is advertised as full-time or part-time.

About your new role

  • You will be part of the B2B subteam – one of three subteams in our 11-person data engineering agile team.

  • In this role, you will be jointly responsible for developing and operating data products with a high level of internal quality and data reliability. Through these products, you will help answer analytical questions that drive key decisions and create real business impact.

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will take end-to-end ownership of data products that support business-critical reporting, performance metrics, and informed decision-making across B2B domains, including sales, finance, and inventory.

  • Additionally, you will collaborate closely with analysts and other data platform teams within the data unit.

  • We believe in ownership: you’ll take responsibility across the entire software engineering lifecycle and act as an advocate for data product quality and relevance, ensuring data is fit for steering, not just reporting. You bring a collaborative mindset, care about how we work together, and enjoy helping others grow while growing yourself.

Job requirements

Skills & Requirements

  • 3–4+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or a related field, with readiness to take ownership and grow technical and collaborative responsibility.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages, applied in production-grade data systems.

  • Experience designing, building, and operating scalable data products, with a strong focus on internal quality and data reliability.

  • Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses, and data lakes, supporting transactional and analytical workloads.

  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark) for batch pipelines (streaming is a plus).

  • Experience working in a cloud environment (preferably AWS) and applying infrastructure-as-code approaches (e.g., Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).

  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration, e.g. using AWS Glue and Airflow.

  • Ability to collaborate closely with analysts, stakeholders, and other data teams, taking end-to-end ownership of data products across team boundaries.
